Course Reflections

This was my first full foray into quantitative research in this doctoral program.  I not only enjoyed this course but learned, and re-learned some of the basic and intermediate statistics.  I had taken statistics courses during my undergrade coursework in Engineering.  I thought I could get this course waived but I am glad I didn't.  Personally, I tend to forget the rules of statistics if I don’t review them and this course, through its readings, mid term and final exams, homework assignments, SPSS practice during class, and the end of the semester individual project report has reiterated that I need to practice more in order to be in ‘touch’ with statistics.  The most enriching experience for me has been the final pilot study, for which I used NELS:88 dataset.  I used this project and the dataset to practice several statistical analysis approaches in addition to writing the quantitative research report.
