Course Reflections

This was my first research methods course.  Dr. Scruggs did a good job presenting all of the basics and he provided a solid introduction to both SPSS and NVivo.  Although, I did not like the re-emergence of exams, however, the highlight of this course for me was the research proposal.  Working on this paper allowed me to re-visit the literature review I wrote for EDLE 801/802 class.  I added some theories I learned in EDUC 802 for the conceptual framework, and the additional elements required to turn a literature review into a full-blown research proposal, i.e., methods section including the participation selection, data-collection procedures, a question guide, a section on data analysis, limitations, importance, and an Appendix with informed consent forms.  By the time I finished this course, I felt like I had taken a huge step towards understanding what is researchable.
