MONEY, ITEMS, AND EDUCATION CHANGING HANDS

GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT (GDP)

The current Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Lesotho is $5.282 billion in purchasing power parity, about $2,800 per capita.
A recent increase in diamond mining contributes to approximately eight and a half percent of the GDP.

Diamond mining also contributes to export revenue, which is $824.9 million, in addition to wool and mohair, food and live animals, electricity, and water.
Food exports in particular provide for less than 20 percent of the national food supply.
The textile and garment industry exports its products primarily to South Africa and the U.S.

Import products consist of food, building materials, vehicles, machinery, medicines, and petroleum products.
The total import revenue for Lesotho is $1.931 billion.
The official exchange rate is $2.159 billion, with a growth rate of 2.2 percent.

EDUCATION AND INFORMATION & COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGIES (ICTs)

Lecturers at the National University of Lesotho (NUL) utilize Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) with the assistance of the Computer Services Unit (CSU).

Computers/laptops, telephones, mobile phones, and printers are several of the ICTs used by educators to process documents, conduct research, communicate with colleagues, and prepare lecture materials.
However, teachers at NUL face challenges such as inadequate ICT accessibility, unreliable communication networks, and small numbers of ICT facilities available for use.
