G.S. Troop 2993

History --1993-94

Weekend Canoe Trip: In September of 1993, along with Troop 602 we canoed 24 miles down the South Fork of the Shenandoah River. We camped near a train trestle and were surprised to hear the train go through in the middle of the night. This was part of our Paddle, Pole and Roll Interest Patch.

Orienteering: September 25-26, 1993 we went to the Prince William Forest Encampment with troop 602. We learned how to use a compass and map to make our way through a course in the woods. We worked on the Do You Get the Message patch.

Fashion Design: At a weekend camp-in in February, we did an interest patch on fashion design and clothing. We took a tour of G Street Fabrics, had lunch at the Silver Diner in Rockville, and then made our own boxer shorts and skirts out of fabric purchased that morning. We also made a fancy dinner of Cornish game hens, volcano mashed potatoes and chocolate fondue (fruit dipped in chocolate, YUM!).

Cycling: To earn the Cycling interest patch, we learned more about bike care and safety. Then, on April 16-17, 1994, we took a 38 mile bike trip on the C&O Canal, and lunched at the Monocacy Aqueduct. We spent the night at a youth hostel in Harper's Ferry.

Docents: In the June of 1994, we were docents at Riley's Lockhouse.

White Water Rafting: We camped overnight and went white water rafting in June 1994 on the Shenandoah River by Harper's Ferry.
