Explorer Post 1192

G.S. Troop 2993

History

This web site is maintained by B.S. Explorer Post 1192 (in the B.S. National Capital Area Council) and Girl Scout Troop 2993 (of the Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital). Our history is a little complicated, but we began in 1988 as Brownie Girl Scout troop 1051 in Arlington, Virginia. We were Junior Troop 2663 and Cadette Troop 2993. In May of 1995 we also became Explorer Post 1192 (of the Boy Scouts of America Exploring Program ). Right now, all of us are members of the Explorer Post and about half of the Post members are also Senior Girl Scouts continuing to work on their Girl Scout Gold Awards.

Brownie Girl Scout Troop 1051 was a combined troop of first and second graders at Jamestown Elementary School in Arlington, Virginia. Three of the members (Alison, Maia, and Rachel) have been part of the group since the very beginning, and Caroline joined in the fourth grade. After two years, the fourth graders bridged up to Junior Girl Scouts and formed troop 2663. In 6th grade, we became Cadette Girl Scouts. In 8th grade our troop became Troop 2993, and at the end of the year, we became Boy Scout Explorers Post 1192. Several of the girls have maintained their membership as Girls Scouts and are working on their Gold Award.

We've highlighted a few of the activities we've done together over the years, beginning with fourth grade. This isn't everything -- but it shows a few of our adventures to Maine in 1997, the English Lake District in 1996, and Lenhok'sin in 1995.
