Explorer Post 1192

G.S. Troop 2993

1988-1999

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?

Overview

This web site is maintained by B.S. Explorer Post 1192 (in the B.S. National Capital Area Council) and Girl Scout Troop 2993 (of the Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital). Our history is a little complicated, but we began in 1988 as Brownie Girl Scout troop 1051 in Arlington, Virginia. We were Junior Troop 2663 and Cadette Troop 2993. In May of 1995 we also became Explorer Post 1192 (of the Boy Scouts of America Exploring Program ). In 1998, all of the girls were members of the Explorer Post and about half of the Post members were also Senior Girl Scouts.

In 1998-99, the Post membership included 14 young women from Virginia (Arlington and Alexandria) and Maryland (Bethesda, Kensington and Gaithersburg) from seven different high schools in the Washington metropolitan area. In June 1999, 11 of the girls graduated from high school and are attending colleges from California to Connecticut, New Hampshire to Florida.

This is a picture of Explorer Post 1192 at Lenhok'sin High Adventure Camp, June of 1995. It rained the entire week but we still managed to earn the Trailblazer Award -- backpacking 25 miles, climbing 2 mountains, completing a service project and performing a song for the final campfire.

We had some great adventures over the years, including lots of hiking, biking, camping, canoeing, caving, and backpacking trips. In addition to our week of backpacking at Lenhok'sin, highlights include a 2-week trip to England in 1996 (where we backpacked for a week in the beautiful Lake District), and a 2-week canoeing trip in Maine in 1997. Along the way we've also learned a great many things, performed many service projects, cooked some great (and some not-so-great) meals, laughed a lot, and sung a lot of songs. We've included a bit of our Troop History here with a few pictures if you're interested.

Overview | The C&O Canal

Our work on this web site grew out of our G.S. Silver Award Project in 1996 in which several of us combined our efforts cleaning up the C&O Canal following the January 1996 flooding. While we were at it, we decided to continue learning more computer skills and to share some of our scouting adventures. For suggestions and information about our page, contact our Advisor.
