Quantitative Evidence of Student Learning

This was done in two steps. I collected the story boards after the first class and made corrections on what had been created so far. Even in this stage I had few corrections to make. A few groups’ choice of camera shot listed did not match the picture they had drawn in the box. Sometimes, group members forgot to add their audio selection. In this first check, the mistakes were very minor, which indicated a good grasp of not only the vocabulary but how to use the terms correctly in the task.

I did a second check (and this one for the grade of the storyboard) upon completion. All groups had incorporated the corrections I offered. Only one group missed several headings in assorted places. While this group seemed to understand the concepts since they had completed some of the storyboard correctly, the incomplete part seemed more an oversight than a lack of understanding. Grades for this component of the entire lesson were all in the 90-100 range indicating student understanding.

The results of the quiz on the terminology needed in story board and video creation is listed below. As seen in the pie chart, over 75% of students scored above 80. Well over 50% of the students scored in the 90-100 (A) range. Even with the successful grades, I was a little disappointed at the grades below 80. Students worked with these terms in class while creating their project. I think there was some confusion between high angle and low angle as well as between storyboard and treatment.
