As mentioned in the “What Worked” section, I made sure to assess
the learning in stages after the script, while working on the
storyboard, and then again when the storyboard was completed.
This step by step assessment not only met the practical
consideration of grading more than just the final project in
total, it also allowed me to catch mistakes and correct them
before the student carried them to completion. I had been aware
of the concept of checkpoints, especially with long term
research projects or writing assignments. However, I hadn’t
realized the benefit in this project until this year, when it
was modeled for me in the class I was taking. These interim
steps helped students greatly in meeting the objectives that I
had set for them.
I also provided a storyboard template with
the categories that students should fill in. This worked to
remind students to consider which shot, what camera movement,
and what audio to choose. The template also included camera
angle which students did not need to use for a news program.
However, this too reminded them of another consideration for
other types of video. |
