What Worked?

Having done a similar lesson last year where students worked in groups and took photo composition examples, this year’s addition of the explanation sentences was an improvement in the overall lesson plan. The sentences forced students to think and verbalize why the photo met the composition requirement thereby reinforcing the concept and the definition in their mind.

Students’ requirement to complete the project prior to the quiz of new vocabulary helped students solidify the photo composition concepts in their mind. The quiz scores are very close to the distribution of the project scores. Using the vocabulary in a real world environment helped give the vocabulary reality and thus made the terms easier to distinguish on a quiz.
