The third game in the Legacy of Kain franchise, Soul Reaver 2 starts immediately after the events of its predecessor, Soul Reaver. The game is easily the best in the franchise with complex puzzles and satisfying combat. The story continues where the first game left off, with the vampire Raziel continuing his hunt for the vampire Kain. The combat remains similar to that shown in the original Soul Reaver. The puzzles, however are a big improvement over those in Soul Reaver. They are more refined and while not simpler to solve, are more diverse than the puzzles in its prequel. The story in Soul Reaver 2, is another improvement. The story is significantly deeper and involves Raziel trying to uncover and eventually change his destiny. The game finally features a map, so it is easier to avoid getting lost. Unfortunately, Soul Reaver 2 does take some few steps backward in some areas. The player is no longer able to save anywhere, but must instead use one of the pre-ordained save points. In addition, while the included in-game map is useful, it does not include a map of the dungeons, making getting lost in the easy to do. Despite these faults, the game holds up remarkably well, surpassing many more recent action-adventure games.
