Blood Omen 2 is a disappoint in many regards. Unlike the other games in the Legacy of Kain franchise, Blood Omen 2 focuses almost entirely on combat. The player controls the vampire Kain as he slaughters his way through hordes of humans and demons. Unfortunately for the game and the player, the combat is not very good. Combat usually focuses on one-on-one engagements with the enemy. The player simply stands still and blocks and dodges when appropriate. Finally, after the enemy has finished with their attack animation, the player strikes, hitting the melee button. As you can easily imagine, this isn’t very exciting or fun. If Blood Omen 2 just suffered from poor combat it would just be a mediocre entrant in the franchise. Unfortunately, Blood Omen 2 has many other problems. The game does feature some puzzles, but they are comically simple and usually revolve around timing. The game also features the weakest story out of all the games in the Legacy of Kain franchise. The player could end up skipping this title and still play its much better sequel without any confusion. In fact, I recommend you skip Blood Omen 2 as it is littered with technical problems. The game crashes fairly regularly, making trudging through its dull dungeons a hazardous journey. The only noteworthy element of the game is the voice actor of Kain, Simon Templeman whose performance is hilariously over-the-top. I would recommend that players skip Blood Omen 2 and move on to its far better sequel.
