The last game in the Legacy of Kain franchise, Defiance picks off immediately after the events of Soul Reaver 2. It almost completely ignores the events of Blood Omen 2, so if you followed my advice and skipped it, you can enjoy Defiance without worry. Defiance features a number of changes to the Legacy of Kain franchise. The combat has been changed completely, with combat focusing on engaging a number of different enemy types at once and the player has a number of different combos to execute on enemies. While not as deep as something like God of War, combat is serviceable and can be fun at times. Defiance continues the franchise tradition of deep and complex puzzles as well. Unfortunately, Defiance does have some downsides. Unlike the previous entries in the franchise where the player had full control over the camera, Defiance switches to a locked camera. This results in the player struggling with the camera and often falling off ledges or stumbling over obstacles that could have easily been avoided had the player been afforded the opportunity to control the camera. There is also a lot of repeating areas in the game, making struggling through them a chore. Besides these issues, Defiance is a fun game to play and the story wraps up nicely, serving as a worthy conclusion to the Legacy of Kain franchise.
