Fear is in never trying, fear is in giving up.  Never fear the unknown, never let the system win and when all else fails, back it up, wipe it out and start over... Robin

Teaching with Graphics

So far, this quarter, we have learned how to incorporate graphics into our lessons using a variety of different tools.  One of the assignments, I enjoyed the most, was an assignment that allowed us to use all of the tools we have have been learning and reviewing.  Working online in groups of 4, via Blackboard chat, we first talked about what we wanted our time capsule to represent.  Next we put together a spreadsheet which compared our artifacts against the requirements given in the spreadsheet.  Then we created a document outlining our artifacts in detail.  Once that was done, we each created parts of the time capsule (our artifacts were all about the Brat Pack and the influence they had in society in the 1980's).  Lastly we put our project together.  In the second part of the assignment we became the archeologists and "dug" up the time capsule of another culture and, not knowing anything about the culture, we were tasked with defining what we found to our fellow archeologists.  It was a lot of fun.

To tie what I have learned into what I am teaching my own students I came up with a Lesson Plan that allows my students to use their creativity while strengthening their graphics skills.  In order to explain their assignment to them, I also wrote a Letter to Students outlining what they need to do and what they need to practice to help them create a quality product.  I hope they will enjoy their assignment as much as I have and are able to use the skills they have learned and reviewed in their other classes.
