Consulting skills within the socials sciences at the Senior Associate level are defined as including:

 

Business Development Skills [top]

Business development skills include the skills and abilities to:

  • show initiative in searching for business development activities (e.g., continued work with established clients or identification of possible new clients)
  • identify relevant Requests for Proposals and co-design responses to them
  • manage proposal tasks
  • contribute to the development of cost proposals
  • promote the firm’s visibility with the client agency

 

Client Relations Skills [top]

Client relations skills, including the skills and abilities to:

  • proactively manage and respond to client expectations
  • draft and finalize innovative, accurate, timely and high quality products
  • maintain positive relationships with clients

 

Project and Budget Management Skills [top]

Project and budget management skills, including the skills and abilities to:

  • manage major tasks (=< $250K) on a large project and/or an entire small project on time and within budget
  • develop detailed work plans, timelines, and staffing plan for projects in consultation with project director
  • monitor the quality and timeliness of task/project work
  • demonstrate resourcefulness and flexibility in communicating with junior and senior level staff

 

Staff Development and Management Skills [top]

Staff development and management skills, including the skills and abilities to:

  • supervise junior staff (Research Assistants and Associates with less experience)
  • contribute to evaluations for junior staff
  • oversee/monitor the work of all junior staff and help foster their development
  • demonstrate effective listening skills
  • ensure a respectful environment without discriminatory practices
  • coordinate own professional development with supervisor
