Literature Writing

"The Significance of Form in Charlotte Perkin Gilman’s 'The Yellow Wallpaper'" This short paper looks at the overall form in "The Yellow Wallpaper". The form of this story is very interesting to examine because it directly correlates to the plot of a woman losing her mind. I discuss in which ways the form can be analyzed to understand the overall intensions of the author. This piece is brief which displays how I am able to concisely analyze a short story.

"Why the Son Ran Away" This piece is one my most extensive literary analyses. I discuss the subjectivity of the "Runaway Son" by Brent Staples. "Runaway Son" is a memoir of Staples that describes his life and how he ran away from his life. I argue that it is more complicated than just Staples being scared of reality. Staples was subjected to the identity of a black, female mother, which overwhelmed his identity complex. Once he runs away from his old life, this is when, ironically, he is able to find his identity. This is one of my favorite pieces because of the time and effort I devoted to forming my argument and piecing together the true nature of subjectivity

"Into Thin Air" "Into Thin Air" by Jon Krakauer is a creative non-fiction novel about his experiences of the Mount Everest Disaster. This novel is very engaging because Krakauer's voice narration is action packed. In this paper I do a close reading of two significant passages that express how his powerful voice impacts the way the reader will interpret the text. Even though this is a non-fiction piece, I wanted to include it in this section to showcase that even non-fiction can be closely anaylzed like fiction.
