Introduction to the Topic


MRI, PET, EEG, and MEG. What do these acronyms have to do with computers? Well without computers they wouldnˇ¦t be possible in the first place. MRI and PET should conjure up pictures of doctors and patients in a sterile white room. The doctors staring at a computer monitor analyzing the results. Medicine has gone a long way from the days of shaman cursing off the evils to cleanse our bodies.

Iˇ¦m currently a Neuroscience to be major; to be since Iˇ¦m waiting for the SCHEV approval. But that aside, neuroscience and computers have had a long relationship with each other. If it werenˇ¦t for computers, our understanding of the brain would be limited to what we can onclude from brain injured patients. While valuable those patients are, computers let us take a closer peek. A closer peek under the skull without having to saw it open. Let us take a look at all the exciting neuron activities.

With advancement in computers comes advancement in medicine. The majority of supercomputers are either devoted to theoretical physics or some sort of biochemistry protein folding related mishap. So what does the brave new future have in store for us?
