Will The Future Be Run By Computers?

As we get accustomed to every aspect of our lives being computerized, we should welcome it with open arms. Computers have made our lives easier and helped us achieve accomplishments that would be otherwise impossible. Imagine trying to land on the moon without computers! As for me, even though my major and future work doesn¡¦t contain the word computer in it. I¡¦m guaranteed to see them everyday at work, at home, and when I go out. As a neuroscience major, I¡¦ll end up spending as much time on a computer as I do on a textbook. My career goal is to be a doctor (not sure on specialty yet) but I know computers will be there to help me.

On a darker note, our lives are being overruled by computers; if there was a blackout, we would we be in chaos. Hospitals would have trouble getting vital signs from patients and anybody in the MRI scan will probably be stuck for a while. Our dependency on computers while great should not overshadow skills that we need beforehand. Example would be calculations; while calculators are great we should all know how to do multiplications and divisions without them. Nothing would be scarier than a doctor who relies on computer for all his information and forgets the basics like checking for pulse and diagnosing by hand. I¡¦m all for computers making our lives easier, I just hope one day they will never take the surgeon¡¦s job.
