A Gun That Heals

A gun firing proteins instead of bullets that can pain-free penetrate your heart-muscle cells and suppress production of an enzyme called p38 that ordinarily limits tissue growth. What does this mean? Think regeneration(4). With the p38 turned off, mature heart-muscle cells de-differentiate, which allows them to multiply rapidly and mature into new heart muscle . Thus, the dead tissue is replaced by brand-new healthy tissue. While this technology is in itsˇ¦ early stages, and trials arenˇ¦t planned for years, the future of it looks bright as we understand more about regeneration and genes thanks to our powerful computer allies.

Sixty-Thousand Dollar Man

While not all us have $60 million to rebuild ourselves and the technology for it is still a bit off. We are inching closer and closer every year. Scientist has created artificial limbs that can interpret brain signals and function like a normal limb. While still inferior to a real limb, this does get us closer and closer. The greatest promise of this? To give our amputee veterans as close as we can, to what they lost. Since weˇ¦re replacing limbs here, why not our eyes? Scientist is also hard at work on that. Theyˇ¦ve created robotic eyes that can for now only see in black and white and detect slow motion and shapes.(5) While nowhere in-depth as our own eyes. The current robotic eye gives us only limited vision but with better and smaller technology in the coming years, we of course expect this to improve as well.
