I was born in Alexandria, Virginia, and let me tell you
there is a significant difference in what your senses experience in Louisiana. M
& M’s Meat Market on Lee Street is the one place in the whole city that
allowed me to experience the difference in all my five senses. The food has a
more soulful taste to it because the majority of all foods are locally grown or
raised. First, the street it is on is considered the
ghetto of the city; here you see run down houses, the homeless and prostitutes
no matter what time of day you go. The
market has been around for as long as my grandparents could remember, and they
are just about the friendliest business owners there is in the whole city. As
you walk into the store, everyone is holding a conversation about how their day
went with someone that works there because they are just that caring (or nosey
however you want to see it). Then you
can smell all the bacon, shrimp, boudin, gumbo, and jambalaya they are cooking
for people to take home. My favorite part about the market is the samples they
give you to try before you by some of their cooked meat dishes. The seasonings
they add to them just give my mouth a nice vacation from the foods that I am
used to eating on a daily basis. Click one of the following below to view my learning experience....
