  GAMED Device

After EDIT 730 where our team delved into the problems and possible solutions for students who have ADHD and giftedness, our team continued our immersion into technology through WIKI collaboration and BLOG participation in EDIT 752 and continued the process of product design for our GAMED Device.

We created and delivered a teacher survey to determine specialize educational needs of students with ADHD and giftedness.  The results were collected, analyzed, and the findings were used in the design of the prototype.

In the design process we took the sketched wireframes from our deliverables in EDIT 730 and fleshed them out in order to simulate a real device.  We created a three dimensional prototype with a sliding keyboard and specialized backing for students to hold during the interview.  We developed interview materials and an interview guide and true to the iterative design process we adapted the prototype and the interview guide according to findings in the first several interviews.  We submitted HSRB application and received approval to interview students. The students were introduced to the concept, given the prototype for feedback, and allowed to go through the wireframes as if they were using the device.  Student comments were noted and as suggestions were made the prototype was adapted.  Finally the results were analyzed in a qualitative report that was delivered in the final class session.  We created a handout to describe and illustrate our GAMED device for the final presentation.

At the end of the course each student submitted a self evaluation form.  The best reward was hearing participants exclaim sentiments similar to one participant’s plea,

When this comes out will you PLEASE, PLEASE give me one?”

Student idea was incorporated into the prototype design of the specialzed backing for the device.
