  Teachers collaboration using computers

This class gave my first insight to reading articles critically.  We were given actual articles submitted to the peer reviewed Journal of Technology and Teacher Education and gave our reflections as student reviewers.  We then compared our reviews with actual reviews and were given feedback from the Editor.  The experience gave great insight added to our research skills.  The skills were valuable when learning to read articles critically for EDSE 841.

Teacher collaboration took a high tech turn in this course.  We participated in blogs, a virtual meetings, chats, e-mail communications, as well as video conferencing.  Tapped-In, (this link takes you out of the portfolio to the Internet) which is an online virtual space for educators to gather and discuss topics of interest.  And it has areas for teachers to discuss specific topics, areas for workshops and plan discussions, as well as space to meet others from all over the world.  Communication could happen both in real time and asynchronously.  As experienced in EDIT 730 and EDIT 752, blogs are an asynchronous discussion often started with specific topics and or questions for discussion.  It is fascinating to be able to communicate with teachers from any country in the world. What a way to learn!

Video conferencing was done with other Ph.D. students using SKYPE to hear one another speak synchronously.  We were able to discuss a collaborative project of journal reviews.

Another project was a journal analysis.  We were to search through a great number of journals to determine the number of articles that mentioned technology in the past five years.

Participation in the Virginia Society for Technology in Education (VISTE) conference was used as one of the class assignments. I was able to attend workshops learning about Webquests, Blogs, and so many other technological opportunities for educators. I collected all the information into a PowerPoint presentation so that I could share the information with other teachers.
