| NCLC 110 helped me to
develop skills that will be beneficial to me when I graduate and move
into the work force. I am planning on becoming a teacher. I want to
teach thrird graders. In the field, it is important to be able to work
in a group. I will have to coordinate with other teachers in my lesson
plans and other materials. It is also impotant to communicate my ideas
not only on paper but also through my words. NCLC 110 helped me develop
my group work skills and my communication skills. First of all, NCLC 110 developed my group work skills. We had a Higher Education project that we had to complete in a group. Usually in group projects, I like to sit back and do as I am told, but for this project, I became the leader of the group. I told everyone what needed to be done and made sure that the task was completed. I helped each of my group members complete their assigned task especially f they did not understand what needed to be done. There were a few group members who would not do any work. It was hard to be patient with them, and I continually had to remind them to do their work. At our last goup meeting, everything came together. Everyone was finally working and helping to get the project done. Although it was difficult, I was able to step out and lead my group through the phases of the project, and in the end, we did very well on both the paper and oral presentation. Next, NCLC 100 developed my written communication skills. At the begining of the year, my writing skills were weak. For example, my first paper on Hemlock did not have an introduction that drew people into the paper. It was boring, and the paper was repetitious. As the semester progressed, my writing skills became stronger. For example in the final discovery project, my introduction drew people in and made them want to read the paper. In the Introduction, I described the house that my discovery subjuect lived in when she was a child. It was very powerful and effective. My communication skills on paper became a lot stronger. I know that I will use these skills the rest of my life. both of these skills are important in the teaching field. They will help me to work with other people and to explain my ideas and thoughts on different topics. These skills will help me become and effective teacher and a successful one as well. |
