Below is a list of my optimal instructional design projects. Through these projects, I gained great insights about grounded theories and practices to design and develop learning environments. Some of these projects are group work and some are personal work.

This is an instructor guide for a seminar course. The seminar is designed for high school students. The goal is to encourage the students to think about using tap water instead of bottled water by comparing both of them using four components: taste, expenses, environment friendliness, and healthiness.

The project includes instructor guide and presentation slides for conducting the seminar.

Phonics for First Graders

Phonics for first graders is a seminar for parents and teachers of first graders. The aim of this seminar is to provide the target audience with knowledge required to identify phonics methodology and demonstrate techniques for teaching first graders to read using phonics.

The project includes a design document, instructor guide, and project prototype.

Problem-Based Learning (PBL)

This project applies one of constructivist-based pedagogical model, namely: Problem-based learning. I used two web-based medium to develop this learning environment, which were Wiki and WordPress. The main learning goal was solving an authentic real-world problem, which was the massive flood effects that attacked Jeddah city, Saudi Arabia. The learning data was imbedded in the learning content using ill-structured context.

Improving Literacy Skills in Early Childhood Education

Online learning environment to improve literacy skills
 

The project implements multiple multimedia methods to build a strong literacy foundation for k-2nd graders. Some of these methods include Youtube videos, online songs, online books and games. Moreover, this early childhood learning site encourages parents to spend time with their children, supervise their online activities, and cooperation with other learners.

Collaborative learning environment about using Second life in education
 

This is a social software-based learning environment (SSLE) that used WordPress as a medium to deliver the learning content. The project combines several social networking tools, like Diigo, RSS feeds and Flicker to build a collaborative learning environment. Through this learning environment, learners explore Second Life and its multiple educational opportunities.

This is a WordPress blog that represents my ability to record an audio podcasting and post it via RSS feeds. The podcasting teaches important Saudi culture and some Arabic words and dialogs for future American workers who are going to work for Saudi ARAMCO, the world largest oil company.

Developing this learning environment was based a grounded design of defining a problem, target audience and learning objectives.

One of the course assignments was to come up with a unique game idea. So, I designed a real-life problem-solving game to rebuild the infrastructure of Jeddah city. The game’s genre is an online simulation of educational multiplayer game.

GAME 599 Basic Game Design

This was the main assignment in the course. I worked in a group of six people to design and develop this fighting game. We used NeverWinterNights software for that purpose. This was the most challenging assignment in the course. We worked from scratches to develop the game. We created the story, main characters, design document, scripts, dialogues, and floor-plans for the game.

Beelife educational site for elementary levels
 

BeeLife is an educational site for elementary levels. It introduces the life cycle of bees using interactive methods. For instance, rollover effects of images, Youtube educational videos, and hyperlinks to other learning sites. This project was done through Fireworks

Designing this site required knowledge of Fireworks' features, and careful consideration of learners' age and suitable learning materials. Moreover, learning assignments were parallel with learning objectives.

This artifact was created using Photoshop. It implemented some of Photoshop's features. To create this beautiful piece of art, I used the Crop tool, Text Writing, opacity and image alignment tools.

Treework Practical Seminar 1

EDIT 732 Analysis/Design Teaching Based Learning Environment

Arborist Learning Seminar

 

Treework Practical Seminar is a project deals with a real-life situation. I worked on this project for a whole semester with four other colleagus.

We Started the process by defining a problem which is related to tree work field. Arborists who are planning to improve their knowledge about tree work, through taking a certificate, had a hard time studing for it for several reasons. One of which is the lack of optimal learning method. Therefore, the team desided to build an application that helps candidate arborists study for the certificate.

The application called TreeWork Practical Seminar. The application should be viewed using a tablet. The arborists will use it during one day seminar out in the field.

To design the application, we did several phases: interviewing subject matter experts (SMEs); conducting needs analysis and performance analysis; creating personas based on interviewees' feedback; and finally developing a prototype of the application.

In each of these phases, one of the team memebers leads the group which teaches leadership.

EDIT 752 Design and Implementing of Technology Based Learning Environment

A Photosop project called beelife logo

 

The purpose of this project plan is to refine the design of the Treework Practical Seminar application created in EDIT 732. The team continued the development of the mobile application prototype used as part of the Arborist Learning Seminar. To refine the prototype, the team conducting two rounds of user experience research to test both the usability of the application and its connection to the ISA tree biology content. Round one was based on an online survey. On the other hand, the team used one-on-one interview and in-person small group surveys for round two.
