AI has the potential to replace some healthcare workers. Technology is mainly going to replace low level health workers and health workers who don’t have direct contact with patients, or who do the exact same task over and over. This includes lab workers, billers, and coders. Almost every country in the world has a health worker shortage and global aging will worsen this issue. As a result, AI won’t put many people out of a job. Technology can do a lot in assisting with medical care. However, positive patient experiences come from feeling safe and supported. That is why human caregivers will always be the most optimal solution when it comes to taking care of a patient. Treating patients should not be left to machines since they have no emotions, make decisions based on their own logic, and can make mistakes. The goal of AI should always be working with humans and not replacing them.
