Volunteers

For every time that I had an activity set up for my project, I had at least one other person come with me. This helped the volunteers also learn about the problem that I am trying to fix in the community. Citizenship doesn’t just mean that you should gain individual knowledge, but also it means that you should spread the knowledge to as many people as you can. The activities that the volunteers participated in were the hospital visits, a toy drive, and the fundraisers.  Participating in fun and creative activities with the children at the hospital was a rewarding experience for both the volunteers and I. These children are in the hospital for long-term stays and yet, they were still able to put a smile on their faces. We went there to the hospital just to help the children as a good citizen, and we didn’t expect anything back in return for our work.

Fundraisers
The fundraisers were set up in order to help the kids at the hospital get the money they needed for extra supplies at the hospital. It also gave the volunteers and me a chance to teach the community about how there are more kids getting sick each day, and that these kids really need the help to make this experience less painful. In order to do this, I made brochures to hand out that stated a few statistics about leukemia within kids. This was really where I got to demonstrate my knowledge to the other citizens in the community. We ended up raising $200 for the project through face painting, balloon animal making, and puzzle making.
