Read and reflect on the questions below. Use this as a tool
to evaulate yourself as you begin with a new group, as you
face difficulty, and as you seek to improve. These questions
will be a continual point of discussion with your supervisor.

Do
you set your students up for success or failure?

When you ask students to accomplish tasks ro achieve certain standards,
do you first make sure that they possess all the necessary tools
to succeed?
|

If
they do not already possess the tools necessary to succeed, do
you make sure they are already high enough functioning and success
oriented to take that extra step of getting the tools they need
before beginning a task?
|
3. |
If
a student fails to meet high standards, do you encourage them
to keep trying through confidence in their ability to succeed,
or do you shame them into continuing through your disgust in their
failure?

4. |
Do
you try to motivate students out of fear of punishments or hope
for rewards?
|
5. |
Do
you frequently punish students, or do you mainly rely on peer
confrontation and natural consequences to do the teaching?
|
6. |
Do
you allow or cause students to spend lots of time rehashing and
replaying negative experiences, or do you push for the exploration
of new ideas or new behaviors?
|
7. |
Do
you give students enough future information so that they are able
to make informed decidions, and gather proper "tools"
to succeed in forthcoming experiences, or do you stick to the
"no future information rule", and set them up for failure?

Do
you withhold future information from students (or make other decisions)
in order to gain a sense of power and authority, or do you withold
information in order to help students focus on the here and now?
