~Everyday Part of our Lives~

?We are Generation Txt.? (Smart Mobs). This is a slogan that has gotten very popular among Filipino youth. Texting has become such a big part of our lives that some people can even do it blindfolded (Smart Mobs). I personally do not know of anyone that does not have a cell phone. Without one not only do you feel like an outcast, but you also feel disconnected from the world. Today there are 1.35 billion cell phones in use in the world, and the projection for 2008 is that there will be 2 billion phones operating world wide, which is almost one third of the world population (Buy Cell).

Most people think of getting a phone when they are in their early teens, but a new study done by PBS shows that getting a phone for your toddler might not be such a bad idea. PBS conducted an experiment with toddlers in that they gave cell phones to dozens of families and asked them to let their children view the ?Elmo? programs that were being transmitted to the phone. This program taught letter of the alphabet. The experiment was to see if the children learned more from the cellular programs in eight weeks. The study confirmed that the children?s knowledge of the subject taught was enhanced because the children were interested in it (Elmo).
