~A Little History~
In 1843 a scientist by the name of Michael Farady wanted to explore the electrical conductivity of space. His findings have had a great deal of influence on today?s advancement of the cellular phone (History). It may come as a surprise, but the first wireless communication was done right here in Virginia. The experiment was performed by Dr. Mahlon Loomis between the years of 1866 and 1873. He sent telegraphic messages from the Coshocton to the Boers Deer Mountains. He was able to do this by using the Earth?s atmosphere as a conductor (History). Jumping into the 20th century, Martin Cooper becomes the first man to create to create a wireless handset. He also made the first phone call on his wireless handset in 1973 (History).
It was in New York that the first cell phone was presented to the public. It was called the Motorola Dyna-Tec, but it was only for show. It wasn?t until 1977 that the cell phone was actually released to the public. In only two years the cell phone spread from the United States all the way to Japan. In 1983 the first commercially available phone was the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X. With the release of the cell phone cam regulations that had to be followed (History). The Cellular Technology Industry Association, created in 1988, was created to help the advancement of the cellular phone technology and to set goals for phone providers (History). Only 10 years ago cellular phones were a rare find, but today, only in the U.S, there are 236 million subscribers, making the cell phone companies one of the fastest growing markets in the world (Wired Employees).
