Introduction

Digital radiography is very useful in the field of medicine and is one of the newest X-ray techniques around. It is very helpful and important in dentistry, most especially to dentists and to their patients as well. Digital radiography is the use of digital processing methods and equipments to improve the quality of an X-ray image. This kind of system digitally captures a patient’s X-ray instead of using a traditional film. Digital radiographs are considered as X-ray images. Dental radiographs or X-rays are an important part of a thorough dental examination because digital imaging can enable dentists to do more and see more (College of Dentistry University of Florida, 2010). By the creation of a computer image through digital radiography, dentists also have the capability of enhancing images by changing the brightness levels and contrast levels of the image. Digital technology will also allow dentists to exchange clinical data and images over a distance. Dental radiographic images serve a great role in patients’ dental record because they can provide some explanations for patients’ oral conditions. Dental radiographs can provide essential information and knowledge about oral health and are an important part of patients’ dental record.
