The Life Science standards emphasizes complex understanding of change, cycles, patterns, and relationships in the living world. Concepts of cellular organization and the classification of organisms; dynamic relationships among organisms, populations, communities and ecosystems; and change as a result of the transmission of genetic information.

Evergreen Project Adventure

Although geared to elementary grades this well designed site is most useful in explaining the biomes of the world, freshwater and marine ecosystems. The photo images are impressive and eye-catching. There is a wealth of useful information on ecology.

United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

Offers valuable information about our environment includes Your Community link that allows you to access envirofacts, create an enviromap and surf your watershed. Also links to Explorer's Club a site linking you to the EPA Student Center.

Virginia Department of Environmental Quality

Gives on overview of the department's role in Virginia in maintaining environmental quality. Kids Cave provides fact sheets on such topics as drought, hazardous waste, rivers and pollution prevention.

Virginia Naturally 2000: Linking Virginians to the Environment

Provides a gateway to statewide environmental resources including a natural resource education guide, and an environmental education resource directory with topics on air, animals, biosphere, marine and aquatics, trees, plants, forests, and much more.
