The Chemistry standards emphasizes a detailed understanding of matter and energy. This interaction is invested through the use of laboratory techniques, manipulation of chemical quantities, and problem-solving applications. Scientific methodology will be employed in experimental and analytical investions with concepts illustrated through practical applications. Students will understand and use safety precautions with chemicals and equiptment. The standards emphasize qualitative and quantitative study of substances and the changes that occur in them. Student will be encouraged touse the language of chemistry, discuss problem-solving techniques and communicate effectively. Contains spectacular visualization and animations in chemistry done at the Visualization and Animation Laboratory at Center for Scientific Computing. Created by Illinois teachers for students about chemistry, includes multimedia chemistry studio, a quiz room, and an amonia factory. May have limited access to to some links. Quick overview of chemistry topics, focus includes matter, elements, atoms, math formulas (units, constants, symbols) and reactions. Allows learner to take a quiz to test knowledge. Orginially created by an 8th grade student in 1996, the webmaster continues to update the site, useful in showing how a science fair project can become a lifelong learning process. Also provides element's atomic name, atomic number, atomic mass, electron configuration, number of neutrons, melting point, boiling point, and date of discovery. General, Organic, and Biochemistry Geared toward college-level students, this site can be adapted for high
school students. Links include information about measurement and calculations,
atoms and molecules, periodic properties, forces between particles,
chemical reactions,
states of matter and other topics related to general, organic and biochemistry
in addition to aminations.
Periodic Tables: A Variety of Periodic Tables More than 30 links to a variety of periodic tables including instant facts and figures for every element, color-coded by date of discovery, with atomic structure, isotopes, and masses, large, colorful, and concise rendering and much more... Webelements: Periodic Table of the Elements Aims to be a high
quality source of information about the periodic table for all from
students at school to professional scientists. |
