The Process

The following is an overview of the steps you will need to complete during this Web Quest:

1. You will be assigned a group. Each group member will have 1 topic to research:
  •       Art Expert - You will research GEORGIA O'KEEFFE and JACOB LAWRENCE
  •       African American Musical Expert - You will research DUKE ELLINGTON, LOUIS ARMSTRONG and BESSIE SMITH
  •       Musical Composer Expert - You will research AARON COPLAND and GEORGE GERSHWIN
  •       Literature Expert - You will research F. SCOTT FITZGERALD, JOHN STEINBECK and LANGSTON HUGHES

2. As you are researching, you need to complete your section of the attached INFORMATION CHART, which includes the following topics:
  • Birth and Death dates
  • Birth City and State
  • Education (if any)
  • Major achievements (you have more specific information for this part on your chart)

3. You also need to search for pictures of  the following. Save the pictures on the G drive - Morey - Your block - Your group number (that way all group members photos will be here and ready to use)
  • The people themselves
  • Book covers (if writers)
  • Examples of paintings (if artists)
  • Song titles (if musicians)
  • Anything else that relates to what you are researching

4. Once all group members have completed the research, work TOGETHER to complete the following:
  • Create a title for your video (be creative)
  • Decide what order you want to put the people in the video - for example:
    • Do you want to put them in order of their categories?
    • Do you want to put them in alphabetical order?
    • Do you want to put them in order of age?
    • YOU DECIDE AS A GROUP!
  • Chose how you want to put the information - for example:
    • People's pictures then info?
    • Pictures, info, pictures?
    • YOU DECIDE AS A GROUP!
  • Follow the steps to create an ANIMOTO video - REMEMBER, THE VIDEO CAN BE NO LONGER THAN 2 MINUTES AND MUST INCLUDE MUSIC 
5. Each group will present their video to the class.

6. Your final individual task is to write an evaluation of your group, keeping the following questions in mind:
  • Did all of my group members complete their individual research?
  • Did all of my group members equally contribute to the video?  In other words:
    • Did everyone give their thoughts and ideas for how the video should be set up? If not, why?
    • Did everyone have a vote in which music was used? If not, why?
    • Did everyone have a vote in what the title of the video was? If not, why?
