INTRODUCTION

Lights! Camera! Action! Movies became very popular during the time period known as the Roaring 20s. Movies began as black, white, and silent (can you imagine?!). They slowly evolved to include voice and sound. Today, we have movies that can be viewed in 3D. What a transformation!

Movies weren't the only new fads of the 1920s. There were many new cultural changes. There was a new style of music called jazz, which transformed the music world and influenced many great musicians to come. New writers wrote stories that people could relate to, and helped describe what living in the 1920s (and 1930s) was like. There were new artists who told stories from different perspectives of those living through some of the major social changes of U.S. history. All of these cultural icons influenced how people understood and viewed the 1920s for years to come.

A small time movie company has decided that it is time to give credit to all the people who helped transform the United States during the Roaring 20s. They have announced a contest for Best Biographies of the 1920s, and the winner will be highlighted in the upcoming Biography TV special.
