Images are important but be sure not to over-use them. If they are relevant, great, be sure to include them, but don’t go using images just because it’s flashy.

Pay attention to the sizes of your images. You don’t want to be using large, high resolution images if they are only going to be shrunken in the html or css. Another way to keep image size down is to compress them. As with anything, don’t go too far, an over compressed image looks terrible, but be sure to keep them as compressed as possible to save on size. Too many large images will cause the site to load slowly, or hit the data cap on your host.

Below are two images. The first one is a maximum quality jpeg, the second a low quality one. There is a massive saving on size between the two, compare for yourself how good they look.
