My Scottish Obsession

Books

If you are expecting this page to give you books that will tell you all about Scottish history I should probably tell you now that this is not the page for that. In fact, this page is more for the people out there that enjoy fictional novels that happen to have romance in them. However, the other section of society that don't care for romance there are books in here that might catch your eye. Hopefully, you enjoy looking at the brief synopis' and then enjoy reading these books!

  1. The Highlander Book Series (Book 1) by Karen Moning
    The Highlander Book Series
The Highlander Series consist of seven books. They all, of course, have a ‘Highlander’ as the main male figure in the books. The whole series will keep you wanting more! During the first book, he (Hawk) was known throughout the kingdom as Hawk, legendary predator of the battlefield and the boudoir. No woman could refuse his touch, but no woman ever stirred his heart—until a vengeful fairy tumbled Adrienne de Simone out of modern-day Seattle and into medieval Scotland. Captive in a century not her own, entirely too bold, too outspoken, she was an irresistible challenge to the sixteenth-century rogue. Coerced into a marriage with Hawk, Adrienne vowed to keep him at arm's length—but his sweet seduction played havoc with her resolve.
  2. The Cone Gatherers by Robin Jenkins
    The Cone Gatherers
Set during World War II on a large Scottish estate where two brothers, Calum and Neil, are employed as cone-gatherers, Robin Jenkins' novel is a powerful examination of good and evil and mankind's propensity for both.
  3. Sunset Song by Lewis Gibbon
    Sunset Song
Faced with a choice between her harsh farming life and the seductive but distant world of books and learning, Chris Guthrie eventually decides to remain in her rural community, bound by her intense love of the land. However, the intervention of the First World War leaves her choice in tatters. Chris is now a widowed single mother: her farm, and the land it occupies, is altered beyond recognition—trees torn down, people displaced. But although the novel describes a way of life which is in decline, it also presents a strong image of hope. Chris adapts to her new world, displaying an intuitive strength which, like the land which she loves, endures despite everything. Sunset Song is a testament to Scotland's agricultural past, to the world of crofters and tradition which was destroyed in the First World War. It is a powerful description of life in the first few decades of the century through the evocation of change and the lyrical intensity of its prose. What young woman wouldn't identify with its heroine, Chris Guthrie, torn between the countryside of her birth and the modern world?
  4. At the Loch of Green Corrie by Andrew Greig
At the Loch of Green Corrie
For many years Andrew Greig saw the poet Norman MacCaig as a father figure. Months before his death, MacCaig's enigmatic final request to Greig was that he fish for him at the Loch of the Green Corrie; the location, even the real name of his destination was more mysterious still. His search took in days of outdoor living, meetings, and fishing with friends in the remote hill lochs of far North-West Scotland. It led, finally, to the waters of the Green Corrie, which would come to reflect Greig's own life, his thoughts on poetry, geology and land ownership in the Highlands and the ambiguous roles of whisky, love and male friendship. At the Loch of the Green Corrie is a richly atmospheric narrative, a celebration of losing and recovering oneself in a unique landscape, the consideration of a particular culture, and a homage to a remarkable poet and his world.
  5. The Velvet Promise (Velvet Montgomery Annuals Quadrilogy #1) by Jude Deveraux
    The Velvet Promise
All of England rejoiced at the marriage of Gavin Montgomery to the heiress Judith--all except Judith herself. At the altar, Gavin looked deep into his bride's eyes and burned with desire for her ... but his heart had been pledged to another. Alone in a strange castle, Judith resolved to hate this husband who took her body but rejected her love ... though she would never admit her fear of losing him. But destiny held another fate for Judith--a fate more thrilling than she had ever dreamed, and a love that would last a lifetime. The first book in this series starts off with a bang and continues throughout the series!
