The Empowerment of Technology

technology empowerment

Introduction

When referring to technology in this day and age it is clear to see that its use in the daily lives of people around the world is increasing steadily. Technology has become a major part of common society in that everything, with the exception of human intellect, is in some way controlled by some form of technology. From iPods to the newest smartphones to state of the art vehicles, computers are relied on heavily. Most people don’t internalize the fact that technology is not all fun and games. In fact,it is a major factor in the way things are run in our country and around the world. With that fact being stated, technology is definitely a tool of empowerment to all ethnic, social, and social-economic groups, especially in the United States. In terms of education, technological literacy is just as important as other basic skills such as reading and math due to its prevalence in society. Instructional technology has played a significant role in education and in most successful educational reform movements in the past decade. (Carbonara, 2005) While technology is fairly easy to access in the United States, still more can be done to ensure equal access to technology. To achieve this goal, it would be necessary not only for computers to be more accesible, but also different forms of equipment such as audio/video devices and cameras. The empowerment of all communities can be ensured if these technologies are made readily available.
