Web design describes the tasks of designing HTML webpages to be displayed over the world wide web. It covers a variety of necessary elements including: web page layout, content production, and graphic design.

Web design methods can help you ensure you audience is effectively using and gathering information from your website. Depending on your website's purpose and audience, you must design your website methodically to meet their needs. It can be a daunting task, but luckily there are different methods to help you get started.

When creating a website, web designers must consider their site's audience, function, and traffic patterns when deciding on their web's design.

Approaches to Web Design

But first, decide on an approach. There are two kinds of design practicies: top-down design and bottom-up design.

Top-Down Design Approach

Top-down design is the practice of designing a website based on designer expertise without understanding the needs of the users. This is essentially when designers design for themselves.

Bottom-Up Design Approach

Bottom-up design is the practice of user expereince design. In bottom-up design, developers or designers focus on the user's experence to guide how to design their website.
