My Troop Leader's House

At my troop leader's house, we had weekly meetings. My troop leader would hand out badges for finishing a specific project. Badges are both rewards and signs of a Girl Scout’s accomplishments. They symbolize each activity we have participated in, what levels we have graduated to within Girl Scouts, and how many years of membership we have. Badges are like medals that are given to people in the military. When wearing the vest covered in badges, people know who you are, what you have done, and most importantly, it shows that we are a leader within our community. Badges are not something that you are just given, but rather they require much hard work to earn them.

Signs of Our Accomplishments

In a typical student’s life, when they receive an award, they would probably think of receiving a pin, a certificate, or a medal. In Girl Scouts, we do receive pins, but the majority of our accomplishments are portrayed on badges. Badges show others that we are working for something and also helping out the community. The more badges we have, the more it shows that we are helping out the community. Girl Scout Vests are also like a soldier's formal attire. Our attire in public is our physical form of how we display our citizenship. As part of our membership in these activities, we have to take pride in wearing this attire, along with being able to represent ourselves in public as model citizens. When people of the public see a Girl Scout or a Soldier in their attire, they show great respect for these people for what they have done for the community, especially when they know what each person did to get each badge, pin, or medal. Of course, Girl Scouts are on a smaller scale compared to soldiers, but their attire has similar meanings.
