thinking about how, and what kind of, media would enable you to enhance your presentation.

Q: And what might some of those options be?

A: Anything and everything that can be incorporated into a webpage. You should also make use of hypertext links in your writing—e.g. if you’re writing about Woodrow Wilson’s 14 Points, isn’t it great to be able to link your reader straight to his text? Try and think outside the boundaries of what you would usually offer in a standard written paper. The time you spend planning, scheming and designing your Web Essay will make the actual creation of the site much easier, too.

Q: But I don’t know the first thing about creating a website. How can I learn to do this?

A: Go to the STAR Lab and explain your assignment. They can help you to get started. Make sure you’ve done some thinking about what and how you would like to present your research. See some of the other resources IT & web design skills.

Q: Where do I put my website once I have finished it? Where will it be hosted?

A: As a GMU student, you are entitled to an allowance on one of the University’s web servers. The University’s general site on web development has the information you need, and you can also go the STAR Lab for this.

Q: How do I cite webpages and other online sources?

A: See the relevant resource section.
