Apprenticeship Program

  • Knowledge Domain - Team Development and management based on the Appreciative Inquiry methodology.
  • Learning Outcomes - Apprentices will be able to guide teams as the members develop into and sustain themselves as cohesive, collaborative, high-performing teams. Learners will develop higher-level skills--being modeled by their expert mentors--to be prepared to move into team leader or project manager positions within our company.
  • Learning Activities - Using a constructivist approach, learners and mentors will work together in both this on-line environment and in face-to-face meetings to help learners construct expert level knowledge.
  • Evaluation - Evaluation is discussed, agreed upon, and determined by the learners and mentors.

Program Characteristics Online

  • Modeling & Explaining - Models & Discussion Sections. Expert modeling and Apprentice modeling are video taped for viewing and discussion. Video models with accompanying commentary and questions may be found in the Models section of this site. To support multiple learning styles, the Explaining characteristic occurs through in-class discussions, e-mail, and the Discussion forum.
  • Coaching - Discussion > Ask the Expert. Oportunities for learner coaching from mentors occurs one-on-one and team coaching occurs in the face-to-face learning environment. Mentors also make themselves available through e-mail and the Discussion forum. Additionally, external experts add a welcome dimension to coaching in the Ask the Expert portion of the Discussion section.
  • Exploration - Resources Section. The exploratory paths individuals and their teams create are of their own design. The Resources section provides myriad opportunities for exploration and allows learners to upload additional resources to share with others.
  • Articulation - As learners synthesize their knowledge and experience, they are encouraged to articulate with peers and mentors about their learning experiences. Learners' articulation may be seen throughout this site.
  • Reflection on Performance - Teams & Apprentice Log-In - Learners are requested to create a journal of their learning experiences and submit these journals to their mentors on a monthly basis. Learners may choose from a variety of methods for creating their journals. One option they may use is their personal (secure) on-line journal space.
