Solutions To Iran's Problem

The problem with Iran’s economy is that their main sources of income come from country’s natural resources, and once these natural resources run out the country is going to be in trouble. Since Iran has potential work force with 15% unemployed rate, they should create industries rather than relying on natural resources for revenue. They have to improve relations with US and its allies in order to accelerate economic growth.

Balance of Trade

  • In order to improve Iran’s situation with oil exports Iran's government announced the goal of achieving “balanced non-oil trade” meaning a balance between imports and exports except for crude oil, gas condensate and natural gas (Khajehpour, 2013).
  • According to Trade Promotion Organization of Iran, the first six months of Iran’s current year it imported $19.2 billion goods and services and exported $17.2 billion of non-oil goods (Khajehpour, 2013).
  • Though Iran hasn’t reached its ultimate goal of balanced non-oil trade, it did improve its export potential (Khajehpour, 2013).

Create Industries

  • Iran has 15% unemployment rate.
  • Creating industries would reduce relience on natural resources for export, and reduce unemployment rate.
  • Iran's industries also need government support and international training in order to go global.

Improve Relations with the United States

  • Iran’s relation with the United States and its allies have made it difficult for country’s exports. In many instances, companies avoid business relations with Iran in a fear that they may be subjected to sanctions by western governments.
  • According to the World Bank, Iran’s ease of doing business ranks 144th out of 185 countries (Khajehpour, 2013).
  • Iran needs to improve its relation with western powers, improve its law and regulations, and stay away from corruption in order to improve its business climate.

Open Transportations to Other Nations

  • One of the strengths of Iran is its transportation system. Iran has 319 airports, 8,442 km of railways, 198, 866 km of roadways. The transportation system ranking of Iran is really pleasing, especially for a developing nation, ranking 22nd on airport, 24th on railways and 25th on roadways (“CIA - The World Factbook,” 2013).
  • By improving its transportation system even further and creating storage facilities would attract foreign industries and trades.
  • Iran is conveniently located on the border of Africa, Europe and Asia. Creating inter-continental transportation system should benefit the country by supporting its large export system and earning revenue for using Iran’s transport system by other nations.
