The Dummy's Guide to Islam

Process

The transition team, in order to effectively create the pamphlet, presentation, and briefing paper, must follow a series of steps that will allow them to quickly and efficiently complete each phase of their project. Remember, the transition team is only focusing on the history of Islam so stay within the years 600 - 1000 CE.

Phase 1 - Research

The transition team must use the following sites to research about the history of Islam. While researching, ensure that you gather information about:

  • Geography of the Islamic World
  • Creation of Islam, the Prophet Muhammad, and the fundamentals of Islam
  • Major Historical Events (Sunni/Shi'ite Split, Islamic Empire, Spread of Islam)
  • Cultural Contributions

The Sites are:

IslamiCity Education
PBS Islam Timeline
Met Museum History of Islam
USC Compendium of Muslim Texts
Minnesota State University History of Islam

Phase 2 - "Dummy's Guide" Pamphlet

After gathering the required information, the transition team must create a pamphlet that fulfills the following requirements:

  • Attractive to the Eye
  • Informs reader of History of Islam, Cultural Contributions, Major Historical Events, and the Creation of Islam
    • Information must be concise and to the point
  • Leads to other sources of information

Phase 3 - Informational PowerPoint

The transition team must create a PowerPoint that coincides with the distribution of the Pamphlet. The PowerPoint must include all information that is necessary in the Pamphlet, spread across at least 5 slides, with as many pictures.

Please e-mail the PowerPoint. Label the PowerPoint YournamePartnersname.ppt (e.g. MikeJohn.ppt)

Phase 4 - Briefing Paper

The briefing paper is a quick, concise, 500 word document that describes to the President the important information that he needs to know in order to inform the American press of the "Dummy's Guide" project. The President needs to understand the history, cultural contributions, major historical events, and the creation of Islam and how the Pamphlet and PowerPoint will help the American people better understand Islam and its people. This Briefing Paper is essential to help the President explain to the American people why this pamphlet helps Americans understand Islam and how the PowerPoint supports the Pamphlet.
