Book Pairings: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire on a 15-hour Road trip

This week I went on a 15-hour road trip from my home in Virginia to Florida to visit family for Thanksgiving. The weeks leading up to the trip I was looking though my small collection of books to decide which to bring with me because I will not be driving on this trip.

I decided to take Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling with me on this adventure. I was drawn to this book because it is easy to get lost in its pages, and there are a lot of them. This installment in the Harry Potter Series sees Harry picked to be in the Tirwizard Tournament as the fourth competitor. He is forced to face off against three trials even though he is underage and should not have been able to place his name in the Goblet in the first place.

This book is easy to get lost in. The reader becomes fully immersed as a spectator in this tournament as they watch the students try to make it through each trial. There is a sense of adventure in all of J. K. Rowling’s books. This one is no exception. It is packed with adventure and plunges the reader in a new, different world.

I also picked this book for the road trip because it is the kind of book that you can come back to after putting it down for a while, if you can put it down that is. For me, this book was good to have on the road trip because I would read a few chapters and then put the book down knowing that I would understand what is going on once I picked it back up again a few hours later. You don’t need to reread previous chapters to understand what is going on.

Another reason I paired this book with the road trip was because I had plenty of time to be fully engrossed in the book. I didn’t need to put the book down if I didn’t want to because I had all day in the car. I was able to focus on the book only and I enjoyed relaxing with a story I am such a fan of.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire pairs nicely with any trip. On a road trip, this book helps cut down on the monotony. The reader can take a step away from what is going on around them and find their way to a world of flowing, relaxing prose and striking adventure.
