Considerations
There are 14 airports in Haiti, so promoting tourism and creating travel packages should not be a problem. 1 Also, there are no major restrictions to this program, since this is not about exporting goods. 3 The only concern is that Haiti should partner up with foreign companies, especially France since French is one of the dominant languages in Haiti. 1 Once the affiliations are established, the tourism industry should be able to flourish.
However, the resort companies should not misuse this technology and become corrupt. This project is not intended to isolate the villagers from the wealthy. Resort companies should always remember that the mission of this project is not only for Haiti to join the global marketplace, but also to help provide jobs for the Haitian people who are living under poverty. The companies should make available as many jobs as possible as they expand. Since about 44% of the Haitian population is illiterate, educational and training programs should be created to familiarize people with technology as well as the tourism industry. 2 Thus, there would be both new skilled and unskilled jobs available. Haitian natives could also be hired as tour guides. Additionally, many Haitians speak French, so resort companies should take advantage of the partnership with French air travel agencies and those of other French-speaking countries.
Another important consideration is the environmental issues. There are many tropical storms, hurricanes, soil erosions, and floods in Haiti, so we should always keep that in mind.4 Safety measures should be considered. Tour packages should be planned accordingly. However, this issue is beyond the scope of this project and will be discussed at a later project.
