A digital divide is when an area has low access to technology compared to another (Femminis 2002). This is usually referred to the “digital haves” and the “digital have-nots”. On a global scale, the Global South tends to have lower internet access in general compared to the Global North. This is usually caused when an area has a lack of access to technology, security – virtual and real life, and affordability to maintain modern technology.
