Can you please explain to me your philosophy?
“Surely I would love to. I feel that, as a philosopher of the
Enlightenment period, I must spread the message of tolerance to people,
especially religious tolerance... Do not take the bible word for word; make your own opinions as to what is
meant. And if Christianity is not right for you, there are other belief systems from which to
choose. Although I do tend to attack the
topic of religion rather harshly at times,; but make no mistake that I strongly
believe in tranquility, and peace.”
For my assignment that I chose to
"un-pack" I choose the Integrative Project #2. I started
off this project feeling so overwhelmed because there was so much to
write about and I could not figure out how to piece it all together.
For this assignment I attempted to create an interview in the voice of
Voltaire talking about his ideology, which I feel similarly to. This
project has shown me that I have truly grown as a writer because I am
so used to writing essays. It was significant to me because it took me
out of my comfort zone, which was one of the first things the dean of
New Century College promised me would happen. With this assignment I
was not only able to express Voltaire’s beliefs, but I was able
to incorporate my own feelings into the text. Instead
of just saying what Voltaire felt word for word, I was able to
choose philosophers, text, ideologies, and activities that he was not
familiar with and write about how he would react to them.
Creating the project required a lot of research about Voltaire, Smith,
Marx, and yoga. None of these topics were familiar to me, and
researching was number one on my list of thing I don’t like to
do. But reaching these topics was not only informational but
entertaining; I was able to use the works of the authors to summarize
and separate fact and fiction, which was needed to actually
get Voltaire’s voice.
I choose to have a picture of the African Art Museum because I talked about how the Europeans colonized the Africans robbing them of their land and culture.
