EDRS 812
Qualitative Methods in Educational Research

When taking EDRS 810 I was introduced to qualitative research.  When compared to quantitative research this method appeared more appropriate for some of my research ideas. Active writing, researcher memos (Researcher ID, Data Analysis), the subjective nature of qualitative research, coding interviews (Jane, ZoAnne) member verification, are very exciting parts of qualitative research. I wanted to know why some language arts teachers have accepted the use of technology and encouraged students with writing difficulties to use it as a legitimate tool and what strategies they have used to integrate technology as a student writing tool. To find out, I constructed interview questions and created a survey with open ended questions.  Before starting the research I applied for George Mason University Human Subject Research Board (HSRB) approval and approval from a local school district. Because the school district approval had not been given, the study became a class project rather than true research. After collecting and coding data I wrote a detailed final paper covering the qualitative part of this study.
