Dave Avis gave brief bio noting that he is a Sr. NCC student with interest in either being the Art Director or working on Special Effects. He spent 4 years in the Navy. He is highly skilled in Graphic Designs.

Dr. Furey collected any resumes not turned in.

4:40 we started video presentations.

First video submitted by Chris Fowler lasted approximately 6 minutes. It was about Don Fernado a 105-year person portrayed by Chris. The entire video was in Spanish.

The second video won an award and lasted 5minutes and 40 seconds. The video was named "The Really Bad Teacher" and was directed and submitted by Jenny Suntz.

The third video was about hip hoop music, was shot in two days, and was edited in two days by Javier Viciano. The video ran for a total of 5 minutes and 10 seconds.

The last video portrayed David Bjerke as a Shakespearean character. This video showed for 2 minutes and 18 seconds.

Dr. Furey spoke on the importance of a class contract to hold one another accountable of our actions. Several thoughts and class discussions on what is a class contract and what one should entail. The class was split on whether too much emphasis was put into the punishment of those not complying with the work they are given.

The other half of class thought the contract should be more general and leave the decision of punishment to the individual group where that student works.

Dr. Smith interjected that simpler is better. Dr. Furey encourages the class to explore the flow chart idea and focus on the essential points. "In a production there is diffusion and consequences…every one has something to do at all times. Some people will be at a climax of their job while others aren't and vise versa!" added Dr. Smith

One idea that rose to the table was some sort of "go-for..." punishment.

Dr. Furey recessed the class for 20 minutes to meet and discuss the contract.

Class reconvenes at 5:55pm.

During the break several students worked on planning the class contract modeling it after some NCC classes and collective thoughts from class input. Mac (Brian McAfee), Andrew, Pam, and Xavier will work on the contract over the next week and will present it to the class on Tuesday, February 2, 1999. If you do not like it when you read it ask for changes if you do like it sign it.

Class is given Production Positions. Class had a discussion of primary and secondary jobs. It was stated by Dr. Furey that it is your PRIMARY job that you will ultimately graded on. Dr. Smith suggested that if you are working on a secondary job then perhaps you could reflect upon it in your class journal.

Class had a lengthy discussion on "What is Science Fiction and what is Sci Fi and how do the two terms contrast. Dr. Furey went down a long list of movies and categorized them as Sci Fi or Science Fiction. The fundamental difference between Science Fiction and Sci Fi is that Science Fiction is based on reality, on the true elements of science and known facts and its possibilities and Sci Fi usually has "Muppets", and is based on fantasy.

6:37pm Class discusses what it thinks of when it thinks of Science Fiction.

6:45pm Class is reminded to do the homework needed for Tuesday's class. Class is handed "The Body Museum" to read and give a 600 word suggestions to class writers.
