In other words, typography is the design of type we use to communicate via written language. Simple? No, not really!

How it's Used

Typography is one of the most important aspects of design, and while well-used typography can create a beautiful, effective product, bad typography can cause utter failure. If a product's typography is too large, too small, or too bold or light, then the audience may not be able to understand the content due to illegibility and distraction from the important information. These are just a few things to consider when choosing typography. Typography is also used to indicate changes in content type and emphasis (hierarchy), tone and mood, and overall aesthetic and rhetorical design.
