Chapter History/Bulletin Board

The Bulletin Board committee is headed by the Historian and documents the Fraternity's activities by picture, video, and amusing jokes. The committee handles the pictures and boards at events like rush, and glass case displays around the University in order to promote recognition and membership.

Social

The Social committee is responsible for organizing the social events sponsored by the Fraternity, including the Alumni Barbeque in the fall and the Alumni Dinner semi-formal in the spring.

Finance and Fundraising

The Finance & Fundraising committee is responsible for raising money and allocating it for the events sponsored by the Fraternity.

VMA/Rush Committee

The Rush committee is responsible for organizing the rush events at the beginning of each semester. This includes arranging the times, places, food, refreshments and anything else that will be needed during a rush event. The Rush committee is chaired by the Vice Master Alchemist.

Intramural Sports

The Intramural committee coordinates the Fraternity's participation in the intramural sports program and helps the Fraternity participate in as many activities as possible. The committee is also responsible for administrating the Fraternity's teams and making sure all events go well, as well as acting as captains for the teams. It also to encourages as many Brothers as possible to participate in the intramurals program.

In the past we have successfully competed in Flag Football, Volleyball, Bowling, Billiards, Darts, Basketball, and Softball with outstanding results. As these are the larger intramural teams, we try to put together an intramural team for any intramural offered if enough Brothers can participate. For the past 2 years we have come in 2nd place in the Organizational Division for overall points earned during the year towards the Hokie Grail.

Tutoring

The Tutoring committee hangs posters describing the subjects available for tutoring, so that students know that this service is being offered. The committee then takes e-mail requests from students who want to be tutored and matches them with an ΑΧΣ member who is appropriately qualified to teach the subject.

Professional and Scholarship

This committee shall plan and execute professional programs, which will consist of at least the following:

  • It shall actively cooperate with other chemistry and chemistry-related organizations at Virginia Tech
  • If so desired by the chemical sciences departments, it shall sponsor seminar speakers on chemistry or some related topic
  • It shall direct the implementation of the national Boy Scout Chemistry Merit Badge program
